Rupert Murdoch launches first "The Daily iPad Newspaper"...

Rupert Murdoch's iPad-only magazine The Daily, once described as "The New York Post Goes to College," is now a go. Launched at a New York event this morning, it pledges to offer "the best of traditional journalism" with "the best of contemporary technology" like 360 degree photos and, naturally, lots of fancy multimedia content that is all pushed directly to the iPad every day. It's priced at $.99 per week or $39.99 annually and launches today, unsurprisingly with Egypt taking the "cover" image. The team behind the new-age zine showed off plenty of that technology, including a magazine-like reading interface, letting you flip through pages, and a "carousel," that gives you a higher-level view of the pages for easier browsing.



The Daily also includes audio versions, with professional voiceover so you won't have to worry about GPS voice, plus video overviews of all the content if you just don't have time for reading or listening. You can share stuff you like on Twitter or Facebook and others will be able to read those stories for free via the web -- but not all the content, naturally. The site will offer app reviews and features with links right to the App Store. Sports fans get full schedules and news updates for the teams they like. Again, The Daily launches today, and we're told that the first two weeks will be courtesy of Verizon. Good on ya, VZW!

Nokia's Bicycle Charger to Hit India in March...

Nokia's bicycle charger about which we had reported last year will finally hit India sometime in March this year. The Indian price is set at Rs. 1,499. The nifty little charger works on the tried and tested dynamo based mechanism that has been the de-facto standard for bicycle lights. The bicycle charger is a regular charger attached to a dynamo that draws power from the rotating sidewall of the front wheel. Here are the complete product details.



It gives 28 minutes of talk time for 10 minutes of cycling at speeds between 6 kmph and 50 kmph. The 2mm charger interface is packaged with a Nokia charger, a phone holder and a bottle dynamo. Jatin Kaushik, a sales representative at Nokia, says, "The device is targeted at markets like India, and is bound to do excellently well. The company plans to bring Bicycle accessories including the dynamo charger, by the end of Feb, latest by March this year".



We can't be so sure about the doing well, because of the price that's a good chunk of what an average bicycle costs here. Moreover, the urban Indian population which looks like the target audience for this device might find it to be overpriced. So charging a phone, which is something one does every other day, sounds unviable on a product that won't be used as frequently. We think this most probably will end up as a novelty device with not many takers.

Nokia X7-00 Specifications, Features And Details...

After showcasing plethora of modest smart phones in the year 2010, Nokia is all set to roll out yet another mobile device that runs on the Symbian^3 operating system. The Nokia X7-00 smart phone is in the works while its leaked pictures and specs are surfacing the web.

If rumors are to be believed, Nokia plans to officially announce the Nokia X7-00 phone during the Mobile World Congress in the month of February.

The Nokia X7-00 phone images have emerged with AT&T branding for the USA. However, the tech specifications and the features are pretty much under wraps.

Display screen:

The Nokia X7-00 phone will have 4.0 inch AMOLED capacitive screen sporting a 360 x 640 px resolution size. The display screen uses the ClearBack technology; popularly known as the Gorilla Glass technology.

Camera:

Equipped with dual cameras, the Nokia X7-00 smart phone has a 8 Megapixel camera at rear with dual LED flash. The front side of the phone boasts 2 Megapixel camera strength. Not to forget the video recording which is available in High Definition (HD) as well.



Operating System:

As expected, Nokia decides to cling with the Symbian^3 operating system. The smartphone is powered by 720MHz processor and has a fair 256 MB RAM under its hood.

Memory:

The phone is expected to have an internal memory of 450MB. And, because of the micro SD support, the external memory can be sprawled up to 32GB.

The most notable feature is the four speakers stretched across four corners of the phone. This should send across an awesome audio experience. Other features include the support for micro USB, GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluebooth and Ovi maps.

The Nokia X7-00 also has active noise cancellation feature with dedicated mic. All the Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF files can be accessed on the 4.0 inch screen with the Quickoffice document viewer and Adobe Reader. Multimedia content and application can be viewed with the built-in Flash Lite 4.0 support.

Dual SIM Motorola Android phone coming to India...

Motorola's Glam, which is available in China as XT800 ZHISHANG, offers 3G enabled dual (GSM+CDMA) SIM device. The phone runs on Android 2.2 and has an HDMI port, Wifi, 5 mega pixel auto focus camera and A-GPS. It is the first 3G dual SIM mobile in India.



Motorola Glam is expected to be launched in India next week. It will be the first 3G capable dual SIM Android phone in the market. The phone is most likely to feature Android 2.2 Froyo, although it currently runs on version 2.1 in China and Korea. Glam will also be the first dual SIM phone with 3G capability to run on both CDMA and GSM networks.

For the consumer it will offer an excellent choice of opting for GSM technology for voice and CDMA for cheaper high speed data access. The phone has a decent specification list with an HDMI port, Wifi, Bluetooth along with 3G, GSM and CDMA connectivity. Motorola Glam has a 3.7 inch landscape touch display with a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels.



The device has built-in GPS navigation and most likely comes with Google Maps. Glam supports viewing and editing of popular document formats including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF. It also has an A4 paper optical-character recognition software combined with translation features. The phone has a 5 megapixel camera with dual LED flash, autofocus and digital zoom.



Video can be watched on an HDTV by connecting the phone to the TV using its HDMI (720p) output. A 3.5 mm jack for a headphone has been provided, but ear pieces need to be bought in addition to the phone. Motorola claims that the Glam lasts for approximately 5.7 hours of talk time or 4 days on standby on a full charge of its 1390 mAh battery. The phone is light weight at 137 grams and measuring 120 x 61.8 x 11.4 mm, it is pretty sleek as well.
