Avant Browser...
For those who like their customization in-house, the Avant Browser's latest update might appeal to you. Built on an IE-rendering engine, Avant takes off in a different direction--IE if it were being produced by a small firm instead of Microsoft.
The browser is sufficiently fast, preloaded with two dozen similar skins as well as tabbed browsing and modular toolbars that let you move around and hide the Status bar, Toolbar, Search window, and navigation controls. The Menu bar, though, is counterintuitively pinned to the upper-right corner, and icons for proprietary functions, such as an in-page search term highlighting toggle, aren't instantly comprehensible.
Avant can save personalized data online, making bookmarks and form content accessible from any machine. Around the same size as Firefox, Avant includes many features that are available to Firefox users only through plug-ins--such as automatic form fillers. The Full Screen view autohides all menu bars, a nice touch, but certain plug-ins--notably Flash--didn't work on Windows Vista.
Avant is a good browser with some nice built-in features and interface-customization options, but the lack of extensibility and Vista problems don't help. We recommend it to users who want a Microsoft-based engine but think that Internet Explorer 7 is a pain.

Samsung's Foldable Display...
Mobile phone manufacturers have unsuccessfully tried to make smaller devices with bigger screen displays. But the sheer impossibility of creating a seamless screen nixed the idea of a folding phone. Till now.
Researchers at Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology, South Korea, have built a prototype of a seamless foldable display that opens up to look like that of a regular smartphone. The display consists of two active matrix organic light-emitting-diode (AMOLED) panels covered by a silicone window that prevents scratches and can serve as a touchscreen, the Daily Mail reports. When folded down, they are separated by a gap of just one millimetre. But when the screen is opened, one panel lies almost completely on top of the other and appears seamless.
The researchers tested the foldable display's durability by performing 100,000 folding-unfolding cycles. They said the key to success was controlling the optical properties of the materials.
"All the materials in a foldable window unit (glasses and silicone rubber) must have almost the same optical properties and attach to each other strongly without any optical property change," Samsung's HongShik Shim said.
This new type of technology has not so far taken off because of the high manufacturing costs.
However, determined to compete with innovative design such as the iPad, a number of major manufacturers are determined to expand research and develop innovative new products with folding screens.
Samsung hopes that its large-screen devices will soon be available with AMOLED technology.
Nintendo's new 3DS: Gaming is just the beginning...
Nintendo 3DS, a glasses-free 3-D handheld video game system, arrives March 27 for $249.99.
Nintendo hopes it will make the strongest case yet for 3-D special effects affordability and relevance. But calling it a gaming console may be the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American public.
Gaming, it turns out, might be among the least of the system's capabilities.
The device will also deliver an array of other fully-connected entertainment experiences, according to Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime at the 2011 Game Developers Conference.
From 3-D movies to TV shows, digital music to augmented reality applications, the company is clearly assigning tremendous importance to non-gaming applications.
Though they won't say it directly, Nintendo clearly plans to make the system a Trojan horse for the larger world of 3-D multimedia. This should scare the competition. It's an infinitely more practical, and reasonably priced, 3-D argument than a $1500+ HDTV that tethers you to your couch.
If Nintendo can make this portable device as common and trusted for 3-D entertainment as smartphones are for e-mail or Web surfing, it may single-handedly deliver the breakthrough that carries this technology to mainstream prominence.
Yes, the system will play 3-D versions of premium game franchises like "Street Fighter" and "The Legend of Zelda," says Fils-Aime. Yes, in the wake of increasing pressure from tens of thousands of readily available free and 99-cent apps, it will redouble efforts to justify $39.99 average software prices by offering "premium experiences you can't get anywhere else."
But with free AT&T WiFi hotspot availability, Netflix movie streaming and the ability to create, download and physically interact with 3-D content among its arsenal of tricks, the company may have yet to play its trump card.
The system lacks 3G/4G high-speed connectivity, and Nintendo is known for ardently policing material licensed for sale or distribution -- virtually or otherwise -- for its consoles.
But by letting users view, download and generate a variety of 3-D material, the system could prove to be the most cost-effective and practical on-demand 3-D content portal on the market.
Should Nintendo decide to enable sharing of user-generated content or enable the three-camera device for high-speed cellular connectivity and casual videoconferencing, the scope of this potential power play becomes even larger.
While a dedicated stand-alone gaming system such as the Nintendo 3DS can't rival smartphones or tablet PCs for sheer ubiquity, consider this:
If 3-D technology takes off the way manufacturers hope, Nintendo's new device may give them an instant entrée into entirely new areas of entertainment, a leg up in the race to legitimize 3-D content and a secret weapon in the war to reclaim the territory recently ceded to Apple and its growing gaming focus.

· SMTP/ESMTP Authentication. The newsletter software supports SMTP and ESMTP authentication. (RFC 821 and RFC 1869)
· Secure Socket Layer SSL and StartTLS. MaiList Controller supports explicit and implicit secure socket layer (SSL) connections to ensure that the program will work together with most mailservers, providers and popular mailservices.
· Partial and delayed send mode. This options are also very useful if your mailaccount has restrictions. Some mail accounts are limited in the number of messages sent out per hour, others require a pause between the messages. It can be adjusted to SMTP server limitations
· Supports SSL connections for POP3. Today many POP3 server require a secure socket layer connection to access messages.
· Directory Pickup Mode for IIS. The option "Mailserver Pickup Directory" can be used if you are running a local mailserver, which has a pickup directory. In this mode, the program does not send using SMTP. It creates a .eml file in the pickup directory for each message, which will be used directly by your mailserver. The mailserver picks up the .eml file and sends it.
· Forward replies to a different email address. The software analyzes each incoming message and if the incoming message is e.g. a reply to your newsletter message, then it can forward the message to a different email address, which could be specified for each list.
· Customizable returned mail detection. MailList Controller can automatically detect returned emails and remove or mark the email address which is not or not longer valid. The detection is based on keywords, which could be customized for optimization.
Email Newsletter Creation - Message Composer and External:
· MailList Controller has a built-in WYSIWYG rich-text (HTML) editor which supports HTML, plain text and file attachments.
· Support for external mail clients (e.g. MS Outlook). Authorized users can send a message to the list from any location. This function is user and password protected to protect the list from spammers.
· Direct support for external HTML editors. A click on a button opens the message automatically in any external html editor.
· Personalization (mail merge) allows to send out personalized newsletters to large groups. The program sends one seperate email message to each recipient, which ensures privacy of the members.
· Add inline (embedded) graphics and file attachments. The newsletter software can automatically attach images to the message, so that the image are part of the message and will be displayed properly in the recipients email client without external download sources.
· Import HTML files from an external HTML editor. The auto-import funcion imports images and converts the html file for direct use as email.
· Send plain text, HTML messages or a combination of both (MIME). MailList Controller allows to specify different html and text parts to a message, which gives you more space for custom designs.
· Custom charsets for international newsletter mailings. Each list could use a different charset and the html message itself could be in UTF-8 format for international recipients.
