This walkthrough will guide you through reinstalling the system software that's responsible for making your Internet connection work on Windows 95, 98 and ME.
If you're using a dialup connection, make sure you have deleted the connection before you begin the procedure. After the reinstallation is finished, you'll need to reboot your computer and make the connection again.
Click "Start", "Control Panel" and then "Network and Sharing Centre". Alternatively, from the Control Panel click "Network and Internet" then "Manage network connections".
Left-click on the Local Area Connection icon. At the top of the window, select "Diagnose this connection".
It may or may not diagnose something. After it finishes its diagnosis, you can click "Reset the network adaptor" to rebuild the networking for the Local Area Connection.
You can also reset TCP/IP on Vista by following the steps below:
- Click on Start button.
- Type Cmd in the Start Search text box.
- Press Ctrl-Shift-Enter keyboard shortcut to run Command Prompt as Administrator. Allow elevation request.
- Type netsh int ip reset in the Command Prompt shell, and then press the Enter key.
- Restart the computer.
